Becky, like many of her students began her dance career at the age of 8. Having trained at some of the country’s most elite dance schools including The National Ballet School in Toronto and the Quinte Ballet School, Miss Becky was invited to focus her studies and then trained under the direction of Kim Greco. Having competed herself as a child and adolescent, traveled to perform throughout Russia, and featured as the China Doll in The Nutcracker, Becky inspires, guides and nurtures her students to experience dance to their highest aspirations knowing and experiencing herself the reward associated with such passion for creative arts.
Throughout her many years of training in Ballet, Jazz and Tap she has successfully completed her examinations in C.D.T.A., B.A.T.D. and A.D.A.P.T exams. After a 3 year program Miss Becky is a certified A.D.A.P.T teacher and also completed her teachers in the B.A.T.D syllabi. Becky has also studied Pointe, lyrical and funk jazz. Teaching was quickly realized by Becky that this was her passion to educate and pass on the gift of dance and as Aritistic Director, Becky also leads the award winning competitive team, herself having choreographed over the years creative award winning numbers at the Local, National and World levels.
At Step By Step Miss Becky would like to inspire and encourage all the young and older dancers to be the best that they can be. To dream is to dance and to dance is to dream. You can also catch Miss Becky in her younger days in the photo albums at the studio.
Miss Karen has been training in dance for over eighteen years. Karen successfully completed and graduated from the three year ADAPT Teacher’s Training School Program in Tap and Jazz and is recognized as a fully qualified and certified ADAPT Teacher of Dance.
Mr. Marc Joinette has been dancing since the age of 15 and is a devoted member and professional performer and choreographer for Ottawa’s own Driven Dance Company. Mr. Marc is also an accomplished silver medalist in two International World Karate Competitions. Mr. Marc’s extensive teaching experience has earned him many achievements on the dance stage and in the dojo.
One of only a few male dance instructors in Ottawa, Mr. Marc enjoys working with children of all ages and learning levels. As a competitive Hip Hop choreographer for the past three years, Mr. Marc looks to inspire his dancers through his unique creativity and love for the art of dance. Mr. Marc is also a lead instructor in our francophone programs.
Miss Wendy teaches the Musical Theatre classes at Step by Step. She has been involved in theatre for years dating back to high school where she began her musical theatre career. Highlighting her accomplishments include Little Shop of Horrors and Jesus Christ Superstar. Wendy is also a certified make up professional including stage and theatre makeup. New this year is the addition of Glee Club with Miss Wendy leading the program.
Alexa began her dancing at the age of 6 at SBS training in Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre and Lyrical/Contemporary. She was a member of the competitive team for 3 years during which she was continually recognized for her ability, agility and overall stage presence. She has participated in a handful of dance workshops taught by North American renowned dancers and choreographers, which has only extended her credentials. Alexa has also studied and completed Jazz and Ballet examinations in the B.A.T.D and R.A.D syllabi.
Alexa successfully completed and graduated from the three year ADAPT Teacher’s Training School Program in Jazz and Tap and is recognized as a fully qualified and certified ADAPT Teacher of Dance.
Alexa is currently studying at Algonquin college, enrolled in the Business Marketing program. She enjoys teaching children of all ages and loves seeing them progress and grow not only as dancers but also as individuals, she encourages all her students to be the best dancer they can be!
Sarah began dancing at the age of seven, training in tap, jazz and ballet. She has successfully completed A.D.A.P.T. and R.A.D. exams. Sarah has competed both nationally and internationally and has taken classes with many renowned dancers and choreographers. She has been teaching dance in the Ottawa area for over 5 years, working with students of all ages and abilities. Sarah strives to bring out the best in her students in each and every dance class and enjoys watching their love for dance grow. Sarah is currently in her final semester at the University of Ottawa and is studying for her Honours bachelors in Communications.
Tanya is very excited to return to dance this year, having successfully completed the first of a three year Teacher’s Training School to become a fully-certified A.D.A.P.T. Teacher. Tanya has shared her knowledge and passion for dance as an instructor for the past 18 years at both the recreational and competitive level. She has trained in the disciplines of Jazz and Tap, (A.D.A.P.T.), Musical Theatre, Baton Twirling, Hip Hop and Ballet and has competed across Canada and the United States. Always looking to continue her dance training, Tanya has taken workshops with famed choreographers from So You Think You Can Dance and has studied Musical Theatre with the Ottawa Acting Company, discovering a new passion for vocal performance. Tanya is excited to be not only a teacher at Step by Step, but a proud dance mom as well.
Miss Laura brought Acro to SBS Dance last year and was a huge hit both with the students and the parents.
Miss Chelsea began her dance training at the age of nine. She has trained in a variety of styles including Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Musical Theatre and Lyrical and has successfully completed ADAPT syllabus examinations. Throughout her dance training, Miss Chelsea competed with the Step by Step Competitive team, winning numerous overall and high score awards. She has also participated in various workshops instructed by North American renowned choreographers.
At a young age, Miss Chelsea realized her passion for teaching and working with young dancers. In the summer of 2014, after a three-year course, Miss Chelsea was certified as an ADAPT syllabus teacher for Jazz and Tap. Miss Chelsea looks forward to sharing her love of dance with all of her students. She hopes to inspire them to reach their best potential, like her student’s inspire her each class.
Currently, Miss Chelsea is studying Political Science at the University of Ottawa.
Miss Carol Bachelu began her dance career as an adult at the age of 21. After completing the Gold, Blue Riband, British Medallion and British Award amateur examinations for tap, the Silver amateur examination for Jazz, and the Elementary examination for modern dance (over a 14-year period), Miss Carol passed the Professional examination in Stage (tap dance combined with some jazz/modern) in the spring of 2000 and is a proud Associate Member of B.A.T.D. in good standing, and is a dedicated teacher at Step By Step School of Dance for over 11 years specializing in Adult instruction.
